When is the best time to hold a Baby Shower?
It is common for Baby Showers to be held in the later couple of months of pregnancy. This is around the time that everything is going well and the mother is more relaxed about the whole experience. Time to adjust and prepare for this fantastic time in her life.
If you decide to be the host for this special occasion, then there a few things to get organised with!! The gifts, the venue, the setting, formal or fantastically silly (a favourite hands down!), and of course the games!
This article will introduce some simple yet fun game ideas if you are considering hosting a Baby Shower
Guess when the baby is born
A nice game which someone introduced me to and we again have used on a few occasions and worked really well. Take a small plastic baby (or Starwars toy we have used on several occasions!) and put some cotton around their bodies. Then put the item in a cup or glass of water, and pop into the freezer (with the ends of the cotton outside of the cup). When guests arrive take the toy out of the cup and hang it with by the cotton either end. Each guest in turn guesses how long it will take before the ice melts and the ‘baby is born’ – closest wins!
One for the nice weather – ‘duck’ baby presents
On the same lines of the traditional game off duck apple. For this you will need a paddling pool or similar, and put some baby toys in there, fill it with water and foam (or gunge!), then the race is on. Yes it involves getting wet, but we have utilised this in somebaby showers we have helped host and it will always be on the top of my list, weather permitting! Really good fun.
Dress the baby
This game requires >baby clothes and some sort of baby-sized doll. This game is a timed game, with the host setting challenges with the baby and clothing, getting ‘baby’ dressed, changing the nappy from fully clothed, and back again. The beauty of this game is that the mum-to-be can keep all of the new clothing after. We played this at a shower and went down really well!
Name that tune.
This is a really good game that everyone can enjoy. Gather together a list of songs with the word ‘Baby’ in them, and compile them onto a CD, or with the ever increasing technology to hand there are lots of ‘streaming’ sites (legal yes!) that you can simply type a song into and hey presto you will hear the song! A really good resource for this is the every-popular Facebook – simply add the music player application.
Rules of the game are pretty simple, play a tune and whoever gets the title first gets a point! Always good for group or individual competition!
Generation game – Shower style!
Fantastic fun game. Grab a baby basket or bag and fill it with items baby-related. Then the host presents all of the items to the group.. One by one each person tries to name all of the items in the basket. The winner would be who remembers the most. Simple, but lots of fun!!!!!

Music for my Cousin’s Baby Shower?
My cousin is having her fist baby and she wants to have music playing at her baby shower. I told her I would get some together on a CD, but I don’t really know any baby shower songs. Any ideas? The can be either happy or depressing, my cousin is going to keep the CD and she’s a dancer, so she loves music she can choreograph lyrical dances too… we just might not play the depressing ones at the shower!
