Babyshower Themes

Sweet peas are one of the first signs of spring, with their beautiful lilac-tinted flowers that seemingly grow out of the snows of winter. As a symbol of life growing in the waning days of winter, what better analogy for the baby growing inside you than the precious sweet pea?
A pea in a pod shower is the perfect theme that lends itself well to any type of Baby Shower, from a formal party in a restaurant to a more casual outdoor affair.
Sweet Pea Baby Shower Invitations
The first item on your list for planning and throwing a pea in the pod Baby Shower is picking out your shower invitations. “Pea in the pod” and “sweet pea” have become such popular Baby Shower Themes that many retailers offer matching shower invitations. You will want to do your research though, especially if the type of paper or ethnicity of the little pea on the invitations is a priority for you; several retailers provide Baby Shower Invitations featuring African-American, Caucasian, Asian-American, and/or Latino/Latina babies. Of course, you want to make sure your invitations are printed on 80 lb. paper and come with extra “just in case” envelopes.
Other “Sweet” Ideas
Beyond your shower invitations, you’ll need to figure out what type of food and refreshments to serve, what games to play, party decorations, and Baby Shower Party favors. Your sweet pea in the pod theme can give you great ideas for all of these.
An Asian-style salad with snow pea pods, sesame oil, chow mein noodles, water chestnuts and a ginger-soy dressing is a great sweet pea-themed dish. Another idea for a full lunch is a light pasta tossed with fresh corn, shelled peas, diced carrots, and some orange juice or mandarin wedges. For snacks, try some wasabi peas, which are incredibly addictive!
Green balloons make perfect pea decorations, and you’ll want to include green and yellow crêpe paper streamers too. Some companies even make pea in the pod diaper cakes, which make great centerpieces, as well as practical gifts. For the DIY-er, you can easily make your own green bean bags for a sweet pea toss game; this can take the form of a large-scale tic-tac-toe or a beanbag horseshoes-style game.
The pea in a pod theme easily lends itself to party favors. Scented green-colored soy candles are a great Baby Shower Party Favor. Packages of sweet pea seeds are an excellent keepsake idea as well, and it’s one that capitalizes on the idea of growth. Cellophane bags of those yummy wasabi peas are a great take-home for your guests too.
No matter when the baby is due, the springtime sweet pea makes a great theme for any baby shower. The most important thing to remember in hosting your sweet pea baby shower is to plan well… and to follow your plan well! Then everything will fall into place, so you can have fun too.
