Party planner: how to get started?

I am curious to see if anyone has any tips on how to get started in party planning? I am very creative, everyone always loves the Baby Showers and wedding showers I throw, and I am looking to convey that into a business. I have a BA in Journalism and am very outgoing. Would it be best to just hand out cards at the showers (is that tacky?) or put up fliers?

Thats a good idea to hand out business cards to the people that attend and they could recommend you to people that needs party planning. Maybe you could take pictures of what you did at the party how you set everything up and show to potential clients. You could also try going to a couple of hotels and if they already don’t have a planner maybe they would get you to help them out with parties and you could ask them if you could leave flyers or business cards. If they are not looking they could always recommend you to someone. It wouldn’t hurt to try all they can do is say no and you would then find someone that will say yes. I hope that helps
