Baby Shower questions? Food, favors, games?

My best friend is expecting her first baby right before Christmas, and I want to have the shower for her… but I’ve not been to a Baby Shower in FOREVER, and would like for it to be awesome for her. Any suggestions for food ( would love to have something other than just a cake and punch type thing, but not a fancy sit down luncheon either) games that are a bit unique and what to do for table favors and prizes for the games. Any and all suggestions welcomes… oh, and I’m planning on doing most of the food myself, probably one other friend to help me with it, also renting a hall, so space isn’t an issue, just so you know it’s not a shower in my living room… planning on inviting around 30 ppl.

Thanks so much in advance!

Showers are so much fun to plan. I served a buffet type luncheon at the last shower, and had punch and coffee available throughout the whole shower. I made three different types of finger sandwiches: chicken salad, ham salad and egg salad on an even mix of white, wheat, and rye bread. The mixture made for a nice presentation and went over well with no left overs. I also had a soup urn of wild rice soup. I had cup size bowls for everyone. This worked nice as everyone could fit them on their plates with the fruit and finger sandwiches. I also had a fresh fruit bowl consisting of watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, and fresh pineapple. There was also a dish of cashews and dinner mints. Then I had a very nicely decorated lemon chiffon filled white cake for dessert.

For games one was who can list the most baby animals in three minutes. Everyone is given paper and pencil first. Then after three minutes you say stop and see who has the most names. Example would be frog = tadpole, deer = fawn Have the one with the most read off all their baby names.
Another game that is fun is to get the little plastic babys, they are small favors you can get at any party supply store. They come in pink and blue, and are only about an inch in size. You freeze water with one plastic baby per dixie cup. . Make sure to have one of these for each guest. Hand these out for your first game and tell them the first person to get their baby out of the ice wins. If you are serving any hot beverages tell them that they are not allowed to thaw the babys out with any beverages or other liquids. This gets pretty funny.
The most important game that helps bring an end to the shower is the dice game so you can give away all you little prizes. Just use a couple pie tins and two dice in each. Let them pass the dice and every time some one get doubles they can take a prize but not open it until you say the game is over because once all the prizes you purchased are claimed, they can steal from each other if they get a double but they can not take anyones last prize or a prize won from any one of the earlier games played. Everyone enjoys this game.
I purchased small house plants, dish towels, kleenex, fabric sticks, any small items you can wrap up easily that almost anyone could use for game prizes. You have to wrap them so they don’t know what they are too. A good place to shop for these would be a dollar store etc. I hope this helps a little and have fun!

I had the guest of honor open her gifts first and had someone help by writing down on a tablet what gifts came from whom. It is so easy to get the cards mixed up otherwise and not know who gave you what. You want to make it easy for her to write thank yous.
Then our luncheon and ended with the games.
I also had coursages for the guest of honor and each of the Grandmothers to be. I made favors for each guest to take home out of Choc. baby bear suckers in little clear plastic bags filled with pastel colored candy coated chocolates. So they looked like babies in ball pits 9 smile ) I tied each of them with a pink or blue ribbon..
