Perhaps a close friend or a member of your family is about to give birth to a beautiful and precious baby. Do you know what that means? There will no doubt be a Baby Shower taking place any day soon, and you are going to need to come up with some ideas of gifts for the mother-to-be.

There is no end of gifts that you can buy for babies and their mothers or parents, but sometimes you want to give something that you have given a little more thought into. That is where the diaper cake can come into play. A diaper cake is a traditional gift that is given at Baby Showers to show your love and share the joys of pregnancy and childbirth.

What makes a diaper cake so special is that it is usually created by the gift-giver themselves, in this case you. You don’t have to spend hours on end making it either as it is very straightforward – made simply by rolling up several diapers and placing them together in the shape of a typical cake. It could be one layer, or two, three or more if you’re feeling generous. It doesn’t have to end there – decorate your diaper cake with small gifts such as cute little baby socks, bibs and toys.

What makes it even better is knowing that it is a completely unique gift – there won’t be another one like it. All of the added gifts that you place around the cake will be extremely useful for the mother-to-be, and it will also act as a wonderful focal point to any Baby Showers party. Trust me – the mother-to-be will love you for it.

All you need for the basic form of the cake is somewhere between 20-60 diapers, depending on how many tiers you want. Then you will need some colored ribbon – choose pink for baby girls, blue for boys and yellow for the surprise baby. The ribbon will be to tie each individual diaper into place and then again, around each tier. You could also use elastic rubber bands for the central diapers if you wanted to. At the center of each tier, take a baby bottle or something similar – perhaps a bottle of baby lotion or powder, this will then be the starting point before you surround it with diapers.

Most party guests, when making a diaper cake will go for a structure of 3 tiers. It is important to remember that the bottom tier should have three rings of diapers, the second layer two rings and the top layer one ring of diapers.

When adding the individual gifts to the cake, simply squeeze them a little between diapers. Some could be hidden, but most should be on the show to wow the mother-to-be. Why not top it all off with a cuddly toy sitting on the top – ask the hostess of the party if there will be a specific theme such as Winnie-the-Pooh or Elmo, which could help you with decorating the cake and don’t forget all the extras – confetti, artificial flowers etc.

Gift for shower hostess? ?

My baby shower is this weekend-just a small get together thrown at my coworker’s (the host) house. She’s an avid reader so I was planning on getting her a nice thank you card with a $25 gift certificate to barnes and noble. Do you think that’s a good idea?

get her a shovel
