When parents get home after that first Communion its traditional to throw a small party for the child. Since the Communion occurs at an age when the child is still fairly young its best to have something of a dual party with elements for the adults and for the kids. There are plenty of kids party ideas that can work to entertain the adult friends and family who come over after the Communion to offer congratulations.
The first Communion services can occur at any time but they usually are fit into the morning hours during or after the church services. This means that the Communion will be ending just in time to have a brunch party. A brunch buffet filled with lots of fruit, eggs, bacon and other goodies will satisfy the empty stomachs of your adult guests. Kids will also love these breakfast treats. You can add a fun kidÂ’s theme to the party with themed plates, napkins, cups, tablecloths and other kinds of decorations.
Sesame Street is a very educational television show and there are plenty of party supplies available this show as a theme for your communion party. For younger kids a party with the theme of Dora the Explorer is a great choice. If you want a theme geared more towards boys how about a Bob the Builder set of party supplies or a series of construction themed party supplies.
Kids and adults both love to get party favors and some great party favors for a first Communion party can also be divided into gifts for adults and for kids. If you choose to throw a Bob the Builder themed brunch try giving the kids small building block kits or hard hats and plastic shovels. The adults can get white candles with candle holders or small religious themed placeholders or bookmarks.

What nibblies and appetisers should I serve at my Baby Shower?
I am having my first ever baby shower and really stressing about getting every thing just right…. Does any one have any recipes or tips about what I should serve? There will be between 16 and 20 guests and its at 11am so it will sort of be brunch. Also if any one has tips on decorations or games or anything els I really would appreciate the advice. Thanks
Yes! You can get frozen mini quiches about the size of a silver dollar that are *perfect* for a brunch-y baby shower where you are serving finger foods. Super elegant, and too easy – you just heat them in the oven and viola! Very pretty too, and there are lots of different flavors. And they’re *delicious.*
I would add lots of fruit, or a fruit salad as well. You can also get frozen crepes, heat them, and serve them with fruit spread and butter. Cucumber sandwiches with the crust cut off are very brunch appropriate too, or any little finger sandwiches you’d like. Muffins or mini muffins, yogurt (get the large size Yoplait, it comes in Peach, Strawberry, Vanilla, or Strawberry Banana, so you can choose the color that best fits your table.) Cheese slices or cubes would be nice too, and I would serve a fruit punch or a sherbet punch.
For fruit punch, pour 4 bottles of chilled San Pellegrino mineral water (it’s fizzy) into a large punch bowl, and add your favorite fruit juice to taste (about a carton.) If you want it to be sweeter, use Sprite or ginger ale. Dole makes juice combos (Orange Strawberry Banana, Pineapple Orange Banana, etc.) that would be perfect, just choose your favorite.
Sherbet punch is two 2-liters of ginger ale, 1 carton of orange juice, and 1 box of orange sherbet. Add the sherbet right before the guests arrive. This one is *so* yummy. And don’t forget cake! Poundcake makes the perfect base for a brunch shower, and it’s also perfect for summer! Ice it like a sheet cake, or serve with dollops of whipped cream and strawberries! Ooo, I’m making myself hungry!!
Enjoy planning the baby shower, I am sure it will go off without a hitch! Here’s a web page with more great ideas:
