Everyone loves to dance, and what better opportunity than a birthday party? Consider having your own disco theme party! If you have forgotten details about the disco era, consider renting and watching movies like Saturday Night Fever to refresh your memory.

The next step would be invitations. Simply cut out blue construction paper jeans. Write all party information on the cut outs including precise pick up and drop off instructions, any additional information such as instructions for costumes and gifts, and a map, if necessary, to the party location.

A great disco game to play is Mimic the Dance. Take disco dance instructional videos, or better yet, just clips from disco shows such as Dance Fever, Saturday Night Fever, or American Bandstand. Have a couple watch an excerpt from a dance sequence, and then attempt to act it out. This will, of course, require you to have some disco dance music ready to go. The most fun of all is the fact that some will get the dance steps amazingly correct and do a great job, while others will cause uproarious laughter when they do the dance steps incorrectly. Everyone will love this fun filled disco theme party game.

Other games to play will be as simple as disco dancing to the music, watching disco era videos, or playing disco period game hits such as twister. Another option would be to have a piece of wood, pasteboard, or Styrofoam set up into a secure standing position. Paint the back ground and attach glittery stars. Tack Disco era clothing to the board, and let guests stand behind it for a great photograph, copies of which may be sent home with your guests at the end of the party.

If you can’t find a disco ball, consider using reflective stickers or squares cut from aluminum foil attached to an inflatable ball. Tie a string to the inflator nozzle, and string silver beads onto the string before taping it to the ceiling.

Consider having a box of disco era clothing available, so if guests show up out of costume, or want to play dress up, they may. Even the most reluctant usually will dress up for at least part of the party and have a great deal of fun doing so, if you have these items available.

Consider making a simple sandwich buffet. Cut hoagie rolls and pitas or tortilla wraps in half, have various healthy sandwich meats, cheeses, veggies, and dressings available, so guests may help themselves. Have bags of chips, nuts, and coolers of drinks available, and don’t forget to put trash bins nearby to facilitate ease of cleaning at the disco’s end, for a wonderful disco party adventure!
