One of the joyous times in life is when you are expecting, especially as a first time mother. So planning a Baby Shower is one of the most wonderful ways you can prepare and encourage an expectant mom. It is a fun to plan a party with a baby theme. It is centered on the preparation a mom-to-be needs to make to give her new baby everything it has to have when it enters the world. This is usually done a few months before the due date, as the mother is “preparing the nest” for her little one. This Baby Shower ideas guide is a starting point to the planning of your first baby shower or for planning one for a friend or family member.

Baby Shower Ideas could be many things from Winnie The Pooh Baby Shower to a Tea Party. There are many Baby Shower Ideas. If you are planning one for someone else, ask her a couple of questions – does she know the sex of the baby, and what themes does she like? You could work with her on her decorations and ask people to buy specific supplies for the nursery according to her theme. Be creative and have some fun with it. You can also do a pampering shower or Hollywood theme for the mom so she is the focus of attention instead of just the baby.

Baby Shower Gifts – The expectant mom will need diapers and changing table supplies, bedding, newborn clothing, bottles, a baby monitor, baby stroller, a car seat, a bouncy seat, and numerous supplies. She can ask for these from Target and other retailers that you can make a list for and many of them can be tied in with the theme of the baby shower and the nursery decorations. For an interesting gift, you can give a “diaper cake”. This cake won’t be served to guests, but it can double as a cute centerpiece, and it will definitely help the mother in the first month or two after the baby is born! It is made of diapers and pacifiers, teething rings, combs, brushes, rattles, and bibs, all rolled up and formed into the shape of a cake, along with ribbons and bows – you can be as creative as you like!

Unique Baby Shower Invitations – You can get very creative these days with invitations, from homemade ones you make out of scraps and ribbons and lace, to invitations from Creative Memories or Send Out Cards. It is also acceptable to make an Evite.com invitation and send it to all your online friends. Make sure you include the theme of the shower and the date, time, and any other important information (especially if it a surprise party – to keep it a secret!) Send these 2-3 weeks in advance and make sure you have decided how many guests your home (or the party location) can hold, and plan accordingly as you get your RSVP’s in.

Food and Games – If you decide to have the shower during the morning or afternoon, you can just serve light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres, with a baby-themed cake and candles if you wish. If you have a party during lunch or dinner, then you can choose how elaborate you want it to be, according to your theme. Many Baby Showers ideas have a couple of games to get people in the “baby-themed” mood and show appreciation for the mother and her baby – games give “life” to a Baby Shower Ideas…so be creative and have some fun. You can play baby Scrabble, baby Twister, baby word searches, find the bottle…you get the idea. You want your guests to relax and laughing and maybe reveal something about the personality and likes of the mother. Guests who win can get small prizes and everyone has a good time!

I hope this short baby shower ideas guide has been helpful – the key is to honor the expectant mother, prepare her for the birth, and to have some fun in the process!

When would be a better time to give my daughter her “big sister” gift I got her?

I got her an AG Bitty Baby for becomming a “big sister”. I found out that I am having a “sprinkle” thrown by some friends on Nov 14. I am due Dec3. I was wondering if the sprinkle might be a good time to give my daughter her gift from me. I was originally planning on giving it to her at the hospital when she came to visit her new brother the first time. However that was when I was planning on getting her a necklace/bracelet which I decided against. I think that maybe giving her that baby doll at my shower will give her a chance to “bond” with it before her brother is here. And then in the hospital give her a few outfits/accessories to go with her baby. As far as I can tell the bitty baby should fit into preemie baby clothes so I picked up a few things from Walmart. Everyone besides my SIL and MIL know that I know about the “sprinkle” because it has literally been 1 giant disaster after another; but that’s a diff story. When would you give it to her?

I made my daughter a huge basket with big girl gifts (she was 4) when my youngest was born. I decided to give it to her when she came to visit her sister in the hospital. I saw it in her eyes when she saw her new sissy. She was afraid she wouldn’t be getting as much attention. I made it a point to have the grandmothers take my baby girl in the hall while my husband and I showered my 4 yr old with attention and hugs and reassurance and gave her the gift basket.
If I were you, I would wait. Sometimes the big kids are really going through a lot that first time they see a new addition. They’ve been the only child and now bam! a new baby comes along and it’s all “for real.”

Another thing you could do is give her the bitty baby and accessories at the shower then at the hospital give her a journal or a children’s scrapbook. Tell her it’s for her- all about her- and that you will set aside time to help her create her scrapbook. That would mean a lot to her, too. Have a picture ready with her and her bitty baby and ask her if she wants to glue it on the cover.
